Editorial assignment

Following a night of riots in the Sankt Pauli district,
this assignment documents the aftermath, the tensions with police
and the lasting impact on the neighborhood.


2017 July 7,  A « night of violence » after the clashes of the night from Friday to Saturday in Hamburg, during the gathering of opponents of the G20.
At the eastern entrance to Schulterblatt, two flaming barricades form the reception committee. In the distance, other barricades also blaze. The whole street will count half a dozen for a few hours.
Several shops were attacked and looted. And the food or drinks distributed out to the people present.
At midnight, tear-gas grenades scattered a first barricade, located to the west of the street. The Black block leaves the area to concentrate on the other barricade, about 300 meters away.
The street furniture is torn off to swell the barricades.
Shortly before one o’clock in the morning, the police finally dislodged the last recalcitrant with several water cannons, troops, and a light armored vehicle that scattered the barricades.
